Brooker Memorial joined a new partnership with Cheshire Fitness Zone Pediatric Therapy Nov. 1, intended to enhance the services offered by Brooker’s Center for Children’s Therapy.
TORRINGTON — Brooker Memorial joined a new partnership with Cheshire Fitness Zone Pediatric Therapy Nov. 1, intended to enhance the services offered by Brooker’s Center for Children’s Therapy, according to a statement.
Cheshire Fitness Zone Pediatric Therapy opened in 2001, and offers physical, occupational, speech, feeding, and aquatic therapy serving an age range from birth to 21.
The partnership was to be called “Torrington Pediatric Therapy Center- powered by Fitness Zone at Brooker Memorial.” That program has taken another step to help support children and families and prepare them for life-long success, according to Brooker Memorial.
Sue Allen, a certified occupational therapy assistant, recently accepted an additional role as a liaison between Cheshire Fitness Zone Pediatric Therapy and Brooker Memoria, and will periodically spend time in Brooker Memorial Child Care classrooms and on the playground doing group observations.
According to Brooker Memorial, “Those observations will purposefully provide support and feedback to teachers and caregivers as needed. No child will be made to feel singled out during group observations; all information is kept confidential, and parental consent will be obtained before any specific observation is made.”
Allen will also regularly provide training to Brooker Memorial’s child care staff on sensory integration/regulation, meeting developmental milestones, and other pediatric therapy-related topics.
Cheshire Fitness Zone Pediatric Therapy and Brooker Memorial child care staff are available to assist interested families through the referral process for either program, and are here to ensure all children are getting the help they need. This partnership will be a valuable, ongoing resource for all parties and aims to connect children and families with the supports available throughout the building, according to a statement.
“Another joint effort, of the organization’s partnership, is the addition of a sensory pathway being installed in the childcare gym in Brooker Memorial,” according to the statement. “This pathway is a great addition to help provide a tool used to develop gross motor skills and work off excess energy. This new feature was made possible with the combined talent of all parties, and the generous donations of the community, through the Northwest CT Community Foundation’s Give Local campaign.”
