WARREN, MI – The actor who played Michael Myers in the last three “Halloween” movies is coming to Michigan this week for not one, but two events.
James Jude Courtney, who is an avid and loyal Planet Fitness member, will be at the Planet Fitness in Warren at 8393 12 Mile Road on Friday, April 28 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. He will be taking part in the Detroit Zoo’s annual pre-Walk For Wishes benefit. The Zoo’s Walk is scheduled for May 6th.
Money raised at both the pre-walk and Detroit Zoo event will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Friday’s event featuring James Jude Courtney at the Planet Fitness in Warren will feature prizes and free food and drinks.
You don’t need a Planet Fitness membership to attend the event. Attendees can take a professional photograph (printed on site), with the money going to Make-A-Wish.
“I’m really stoked to be in Michigan this weekend,” the actor told MLive. “The Detroit area is such a wonderful community and it’s been through so much. It’s really good to see there are so many good people doing so much good work for the community.”
“This is our 8th year for Walk For Wishes and it has become our signature fundraising event each year,” Bryan Reif, Co-Owner and CEO of EPIC Fitness Group told MLive. “To date, we’ve raised more than $350,000. It’s an opportunity to give back and we do it in a way to connect with kids with critical medical conditions and to give back to them and their families.”
Not only will the event give people a chance to meet a Hollywood horror icon, but attendees will be able to get a little exercise at the walk, something the 66-year old actor says is crucial to playing Michael Myers.
“There’s no way I could even do the intense physical stunts of these characters without being in shape. Being in shape mentally, physically and emotionally takes discipline. It’s not difficult, really, to include physical fitness in our well-being. It gets easier the more you do it and working out becomes a joy.”
Along with the walk, Courtney will be at Screamers Costumes on Saturday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to take photos with fans. Screamers is located at 35431 South Gratiot Avenue in Clinton Township in Metro Detroit. It’s for the shop’s “Halfway to Halloween” event.
Now that Courtney, who starred in the 2018 “Halloween” movie, along with the two sequels, “Halloween Kills” (2021) and “Halloween Ends” (2022), is done playing Michael Myers, he says he’s working on another project he hopes will start production soon.
“I wrote a screen play which I’ve been working on for years and years. It’s a very timely story about a high school soccer player. We’re currently working with some overseas investors. It’s all coming together. It’s called “Next Level.”
