Here’s the "anchoring philosophy" that helps Dwayne Johnson push through on the days when he doesn’t want to work out.
Dwayne Johnson’s work ethic isn’t just an asset that has helped him become one of the most booked-and-busy working actors in Hollywood with tentpole action movies and side hustles in abundance: striving to always be the "hardest worker in room" is a full-blown part of The Rock’s celebrity brand.
In a recent video on Instagram, which he shared after a late-night workout, Johnson elaborated on the
words he uses to amp himself up for a workout on those days when even he would rather be doing something else.
"I heard this quote the other day that I want to share with you guys," he said. "Now I’m paraphrasing here but it goes like this: the person who goes to the gym every single day, regardless of how they feel, will always beat the person who goes to the gym when they feel like going to the gym."
"What I love about that quote is it’s just this anchoring philosophy of yes, being the hardest workers in the room, but also probably more importantly than that, it’s just this idea of pushing past the fatigue and us doing the daily consistent shit that we don’t feel like doing," he continued. "Fuck, I don’t want to work out at midnight, my babies are going to be up in five hours, but I know when I don’t want to work out at midnight, well that’s when I have to work out at midnight."
And as hard as that might feel in the moment, Johnson adds that he is always glad he forced himself to break through that inertia.
"I came in here, I pushed myself, pushed past the fatigue, but more importantly than the physicality part, I think, is just being able to come in here, set the edge, the psychological edge, and just recalibrate from a long day, think about what I’m doing tomorrow, what I want to do the next week, month, year, whatever," he said.
"So I highly recommend you guys doing the daily consistent shit that you don’t want to do, push past it, because there’s so many people who aren’t willing to do it at all."
