The collapse of a school gym’s roof has left 11 dead in Qiqihar, Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province, due to what an initial investigation determined was misconduct by a construction crew working on a nearby building, state media reported.
The victims included several members of the school’s girls’ volleyball team, who were practicing in the 1,200-square-meter (12,917-square-foot) gym at the time of the collapse on Sunday, Caixin has learned.
